Ways to Live Forever by Sally Nicholls

This is one of the first YA books I remember reading and since then I have re-read it so many times! As much as I love The Fault in Our Stars, this is the original cancer inspirational story. Ways to Live Forever follows two boys, both diagnosed with cancer, and their quest to complete their bucket list before they die. This book is inspirational and has no where near the hype they deserve.

A friend recommended me this book a while book and I knew nothing about it. I dived into it straight away and I have no regrets! This book is very unusual and has an immense amount of mystery and thriller and I loved it!

When Hitler stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr

This was a read from a VERY long time ago and it has still stayed with me. This is a true historical novel following a young girl living during World War 2. Her Father, writes articles against Hitler so the story follows her childhood fleeing his wrath.

Candor by Pam Bachorz

From the basic structure of the plot, this book had potential to be phenomenal! However, it very much did not live up to the expectations. The writing was simple with no mystery created and the ending very much disappointing.

For this one, I didn't just chose The Isobel Journal because of the cover, but because of all the illustrations included. The lively illustrations add life and character to the book making it not only a stunning piece of literature but a brilliant work of art too!

Ten Behind-The-Scenes Secrets About Chasing Forever Down

1) In chapter 9, A.J. chooses a yellow jet ski for the day. Reed accuses him of picking yellow because he wants to be seen. The real reason? I drive a yellow truck in real life!

2) 3108 Locust Street is the address to Jitters, where we meet Coffee Shop Tim. The real 3108 Locust Street is the address of a venue where I saw Mest live in 2008! (And met Chris Wilson, formerly of Good Charlotte...who is also my favorite drummer of forever!)

3) Speaking of Coffee Shop Tim, he's a total shout out to musician Tim Halperin, who I adore.

4) The character known as Enchanted Emily is really my sister, even down to her clothes. Except I changed the name of the band on her shirt. In the book, it's Sebastian's Shadow. In reality, it's Hawthorne Heights.

5) The band, The Ocean In Moonlight, got its name from a lyric in the Yellowcard song "Back Home." The lyric states: "Free to stand beside the ocean in moonlight and light myself a smoke beneath the dark Atlantic sky."

6) The Enchanter doll hanging from A.J.'s rearview mirror is actually a doll my sister made me. His name really is Logan in real life too.

7) A.J.'s abandoned carnival was inspired by a traveling carnival that was behind our local mall one day. Emily said I should put a carnival in CFD. I remember walking over to it and takingpictures on my cell phone. "Firework" by Katy Perry was playing. I've linked that song to A.J.since then. Surprisingly, it's very fitting for him.

8) The UPS truck driver in the final chapter is actually my local UPS guy, Tripp. I got all teary- eyed the day he delivered the box of my CFD paperbacks to the house. If he only knew!

9) Miles Garrett's surfboard is green and silver because he's Emily's favorite character, and she's obsessed with all things Slytherin.

10) This story made me buy a shell necklace. I've only worn it once - the day I wrote the goodbye scene with Haley & A.J.

Death has many times been portrayed as a human being (The Book Thief, Death Takes a Holiday and Meet Joe Black, among others), with the fascinating idea of death as an entity you can speak to and anger. Written by a teenager, When Adam Lacroft Met Death has a narrator that, like many teenage boys, is genuinely uninformed and immature. In lively opposition to this tone, the book is, above all else, a tale about corruption of character and ideals and lives spiraling out of control in a desperate attempt to survive.

INTERVIEW:

1) Do you prefer ebooks or physical books? It’s hard to say which I prefer more, an ebook or a physical book. I like the convenience and inexpensiveness of ebooks, allowing me to read much more often and many more stories. However, there’s something traditionally satisfying about holding a book and reading it from cover to cover, using a bookmark or a torn piece of paper keeping my spot until the next time.

2) Do you think covers are important or should you never judge a book by its cover? I think covers are definitely important, at least when it comes to a new unknown author. The artwork has to catch the eye of the reader passing by, something I hope my covers do. As a self-published author and designer, I enjoy creating my own covers. However, that probably means I’m biased, and I end up making the same cover over and over again, until finally I feel it meets a careful balance between expressing the story and appealing to the reader. Though in the end, I think they can always be better. I hope that when a reader sees the cover of SAFE, she’s intrigued enough to find out more about the dystopian tale inside. 

3) Have you always wanted to be an author? My passion for writing began in 2008. Before that, I focused on college and graduating. I can’t say that I ever truly knew what I wanted to do when I was younger, but I always had a passion for helping people. In 2000, I went overseas for a summer and helped build an orphanage. That event changed my life, and gave me a taste for adventure. For now, writing has become a large piece of me, an outlet for all the built up energy and drive I have for living to the fullest. A quote that best describes me is: "A goal without a plan is just a wish." Writing books became a dream of mine, so I put it into action, and begin my first story. Which led to many more.

4) What gave you the inspiration for SAFE? I loved the idea of a teenager discovering the reality of her world to be faulty; Penny’s life consists of only what she was taught to believe. When those truths are challenged, her reality becomes unstable. Mostly, I wanted to write a science fiction book created inside a post-apocalyptic period. This concept sums up the dystopian novel, SAFE.

5) What's the best bit about being an author? The best thing about being an author is… creating alternate realities, thus allowing me to live in them amidst the plotting and character developing. On the flip side, it’s also exhausting, because I can’t stop writing until the story is completely written down. This creates endless hours of writing into the night.

Christmas is just around the corner. For me, that means chilly weather, nonstop jingle music, and more importantly – vacation time! Which is perfect because I love snuggly sweaters, singing along to cheery music and having lots of time to read.

Despite the red cover, my latest release, DRAWN, is not a Christmas book. It takes place in January in Brussels, Belgium and follows a reluctant teen spy, Sasha. Sasha has spent her life putting away criminals and finds herself torn between wanting to be a hero and the friendships she develops with the people she's supposed to target. Not Christmas material.

Do I want you to read it? Totally.

Do I think you'll like the comic book inserts before each chapter? Duh.

Is Sasha, the heroine a cool mix of kick-ass and vulnerable? Of course.

But are you going to want to snuggle up with a mug of hot chocolate in a picture window besides your Christmas tree while you read DRAWN? Errr….probably not.  Instead, I offer…

1.     1)  How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Even the worst Grinch in you will melt into a mushy puddle of holiday cheer after this quick read. Word for word the best bang for your holiday buck.

2.      2) The Gift of the Magi: When my gift list gets a little too nuts and my bank balance gets too low, this is the story that reminds me we don't have to go broke to show how much we care about all the special people in our lives.

3.      3) The Velveteen Rabbit: Ever pick a book because you want to cry? This'll do the trick.

4.      4) Olivia Helps with Christmas: My family skips the ham at Christmas for other food which is a good thing because no one way could I stomach it after falling in love with Oivia and her Christmas shenanigans.

5.       5) How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Chanukah?: Not technically a Christmas book but who cares! I might not be a six year old boy but if you put a dinosaur in a book, I'm in.

So get a cozy infinity scarf and a steaming mug of something delicious, grab one of these books, tuck your feet beneath you and get in the holiday spirit. Then, when you're done stuffing yourself with a holiday feast and done opening presents…grab a copy of DRAWN and dig in. J
