MY THOUGHTS:
I wish I could give this book two different ratings. For its writing, I would give it a 5 stars but as it wasn’t for me, the general reading experience is a 3 stars.
I originally picked this up as I thought it sounded similar to Lord of The Flies which I am currently reading in school. The blurb was fantastic – really intriguing and with great potential. Also, the prologue was equally as amazing. However, as I progressed into the story, I discovered that a VERY major theme in this book is drugs. I am not a fan of this topic and therefore felt very awkward and on edge reading it. Consequently, my reading experience wasn't as good as it could have been.
Don’t let this put you off the book though! A very creepy and fast paced novel that send shivers down your spine. The writing was fantastic, leaving me quickly fighting with the pages to read on. I loved how in the first part, the chapters alternated to the different times as it enabled the author to give clues to each mystery so you need to read on. The chapters flow INCREDIBLY well with the last line of the previous being the same as the first line of the following.
The ending of the novel is one which is slightly unusual to the characters but still very satisfying! It was definitely one I did not see coming. Another great aspect of the novel was the shark attacks. I am fascinated by these magnificent beasts and believe the writing captures their ferocious beauty in a brilliant way.
Overall, a fantastically crafted story line and novel but with a topic not for me. Would recommend it if you enjoy that thing.
