Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling
SERIES: Harry Potter #4
GENRE: Fantasy, Adventure
RATING:*****
The summer holidays are dragging on and Harry Potter can't wait for the start of the school year. It is his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and there are spells to be learnt, potions to be brewed and Divination lessons (sigh) to be attended. Harry is expecting these: however, other quite unexpected events are already on the march ...
MY THOUGHTS:I have just reread this book after discovering Santa left me Harry Potter set tour tickets and I was soon reminded why this is my favourite novel in the series!
At first, I was hesitant to begin the book again due to it's large size but from reflecting at the end, I feel the size adds to the book as it enables J.K Rowling to drop clues and let you ponder the possibilities and then spring on a great surprise. The length also enables her to really explain the details - a great thing to do considering the intricate plot. I love how every part of the book has a reason and all the details in the previous books add to the twists and plot.
This is my favourite book of the series because it stops being books and starts becoming a love. In this novel, Harry, Ron and Hermione grow up considerably, suddenly discovering love and just growing up. It is great to see our favourite character s go through the things we worry about and experience. I also believe this book is the platform for the fantastic books ahead. It is the start of the revolution against Voldemort and The Dark Arts, making you longing for the next book.
As a lover of animals, I very much appreciate the abundance of magical creatures in this book. Dragons, Unicorns, merepeople and mire! These creatures really add to the enchanting wizarding world!
After reading the book, I went and sat down and watched the film. I have never watched a Harry Potter film directly after reading the corresponding book and I must say I am very disappointed! The film completely misses out some of the best aspects of the book; especially Winky and Rita Skeeter. Without Winky, the plot and twists at the end become incomplete and you see only half the story. Also, with little reference to Rita Skeeter is the film, you learn little about Hagrid and the giants and Krum's love life.
Overall, my favourite book in the series and the start of something special! If you are struggling with the first three books of the series, definitely read this one to get you excited and in love!
I think it's interesting to compare favorite Harry Potter books. My personal favorite is The Chamber Of Secrets, even though that one actually scares me!! It's hard for me to read it at night after everyone goes to sleep :p
