REVIEW: Follow the White Rabbit by Kellie Sheridan

Follow the White Rabbit by Kellie Sheridan
SERIES: Beautiful Madness #1
GENRE: YA Fantasy
RATING:***

For centuries, Wonderland thrived as the domain of beautiful bedlam and unapologetic madness. It was a place like no other. All it took was one girl slipping in through the cracks of the universe to start chaos spiraling toward order. In the 150 years since Alice’s visit, the realm has become tainted—almost normal. Rabbits in waistcoats and playing card minions are little more than creatures of myth, and Wonderland is literally falling to pieces.
For Gwen, Rose, and Lucky, Wonderland is home, and yet they know little of its former glory. When the Alice prophecy resurfaces, they’ll have one chance to use Wonderland’s own legends to bring a little mayhem back into their reality. For she who controls Alice controls the fate of Wonderland.

MY THOUGHTS:
I am not very familiar with the traditional Alice in Wonderland so I thought a modern interpretation would introduce me well.

This novella has a very intriguing start if not slightly creepy. I liked the different POVs and I believe each character has a very unique voice. However, I was not able to identify all the characters to the corresponding ones in the traditional Alice in Wonderland. This was unclear as I believe the novella sometimes drifted very far from the original. This also may be because of my lack of knowledge regarding the traditional.

I was very disappointed with the length of this novella. It seemed very short and ended very abruptly. Most of the novella was used to describe the world the characters live in and only the last few pages were contributing to the plot. This novella could have been held back and joined with the next one in the series to form a more progressive book.

I know I shouldn't judge a book a book by a cover, but the cover of this novella was not very impressive. I very much liked the image of the girl in the background and I believe it contributed to the story. However, I am not too sure about the font of the text and the spade icon seemed very copied and pasted. Also, the look of the cover for the next book is completely different to this. I do not like series that have varying covers. Maybe a change to the covers would attract more readers as it will look as professional as the writing style.
