SERIES: The Hundred #1
GENRE: YA dystopia
In the future, humans live in city-like spaceships orbiting far above Earth's toxic atmosphere. No one knows when, or even if, the long-abandoned planet will be habitable again. But faced with dwindling resources and a growing populace, government leaders know they must reclaim their homeland... before it's too late.
Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents are being sent on a high-stakes mission to recolonize Earth. After a brutal crash landing, the teens arrive on a savagely beautiful planet they've only seen from space. Confronting the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community. But they're haunted by their past and uncertain about the future. To survive, they must learn to trust - and even love - again
MY THOUGHTS:
I absolutely love this book!! Arghhh! Get me the next book now! The 100 is one of them books that you become addicted to, even after you have read it. I found myself crying, screaming and laughing at this book - all the feels.
When I first saw the cover, I predicted a futuristic maybe dystopian book. I automatically compared it to Across the Universe by Beth Revis as it has the similar space feeling. Once linked to this, I had some negative feelings towards this, expecting to take a long time to read it as it possibly couldn't live up to Across the Universe. However, I was so wrong! This book is better than Across the Universe!
This story is told from four different perspectives:
CLARKE was arrested for treason, though she's haunted by the memory of what she really did.
WELLS, the chancellor's son, came to Earth for the girl he loves - but will she ever forgive him?
BELLAMY fought his way onto the transport pod to protect his sister, the only siblings in the universe.
GLASS managed to escape back onto the ship, only to find that life there is just as dangerous as she feared it would be on Earth.
I love these different chapters with different POVs. It helped to create a great sense for each character. Every character has different thoughts about the situation they're in and these are really powerful as they are expressed individually. After reading the blurb (which included the character descriptions), I thought I had an idea about why each character was confined. How wrong I was. There is so much mystery in this book! Along with the great plot, this sense of mystery meant I could easily read 100 pages and not realise. I just wanted to read on to find out the end. But the end... oh the end. A CLIFFHANGER! I normally am not bothered by cliffhangers in series. Not when I have to wait ages for the next book! ARGGH!!
The romance in this book was fantastic. I loved the multiple triangles and changes in the relationships. There are many points when I thought - 'NO! You picked the wrong boy!' . There was enough romance to make me happy but not too much to over power it.
Overall, a fantastic, superb, and amazing book that everyone should read!
EXTRA:
Once I had finished the book and did some research, I discovered this is going to be made into a TV series in America. I am in the UK so I am not sure I would be able to watch it but I really want to watch it! Here is some sneak views of the series. Enjoy!
