The A-Z YA Book Tag

I recognized this post from Author Jack Croxall's blog and although I wasn't tagged. I thought this was a fabulous post idea and I thought I would give it a go! I couldn't find who originally created this tag but credit to whoever did - it's excellent! Basically, there is 26 questions to answer surrounding YA books, each beginning with a letter of the alphabet.

A book you wish you owned?
For this I will have to go with Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider (although I have pre ordered it so it should be coming soon!). The book trailer which you can find HERE makes this book look fantastic and it is meant to be a must have for John Green fans so why not?! Plus, both the US and UK covers are gorgeous!

Best YA Book Cover?
Again, another book I don't own but I think the cover for The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton is stunning and worth the buy just for the cover!

Could you ever see yourself with any of your favourite characters?
My dream answer would be yes definitely but I am not 100% sure that is true. If I went to Hogwarts (or when), I would most likely be friends with Hermione as I love to study and learn but don't let people push me around!

Do you ever wish you could live in a fictional world?
Obviously! Like most people I would give anything to go to Hogwarts and also, after reading the Selection, I would also love to live in the palace with all the dances, dresses food and especially Maxon!

Epic Battle or Love Story?
It usually depends what mood I'm in - most of the time it is Love story.

Favourite YA title you have read so far?
I am taking this as favourite book and not just to the title so I would have to go with one that started off my reading journey and really got me into reading for pleasure which was Ways to Live Forever by Sally Nicholls.

Ghosts or Aliens?
Really, none of them but if I had to chose, aliens as I am a big wuss and hate anything horror or ghostly - they scare me so much!

How do you chose which books to buy?
It is a mixture of things really. Usually they are books that I have been recommended or seen great things about in the book community. I also enjoy just browsing in a book shop, reading blurbs to see if I like something. However, unless I am really desperate for it, I try to buy books that are cheap or on offer.

If you could be a fictional character for a day - who would you chose?
For me, I would love to be any and every fictional character for a day but if I had to say one, I would say Anna from Anna and the French Kiss as I love Paris and the idea of Boarding School in Paris would be the best day of my life!

Judge Books by their Covers?
I wouldn't say I judge them so like refuse to read them if the covers are ugly but I do use them to try and gain an insight into what the book is about.

Killing Characters in YA books - should it be allowed?
Yes - life isn't perfect and unfortunately death happens so why avoid the topic - though I am distraught when it happens and have moments where I dislike the author for it.

Least favourite YA book you've read?
I wouldn't say I have a least favourite book but the books which I did not finish as didn't enjoy were Winger by Andrew Smith and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen by Dyan Sheldon.

Male protagonist or female protagonist?
Either - I have no preference but some of my favourite books are male protagonists (Half Bad and Beautiful Creatures)!

Name a YA book you are desperate to read.
I still haven't read any of Cassandra Clare's books. I know, the shame. I own them all but am waiting for the right time to devote my life to them! Hey, what else is summer for?

One YA book you want everyone to read?
Girl, Missing by Sophie McKenize - an action packed, suspenseful thriller!

Pick three fictional chracters you would want on your side in an apocalypse.
Hermione - for her magic and so I can use her time turner.
Maxon (from the Selection) - for his rational thinking skills and to comfort me!
Tella (from Fire and Flood) - just so I can also have her Pandora!

Quick Read or Long Read?
Quick read so I can discover more worlds and fall in love with more characters.

Reading is essential to a happy life - agree?
Definitely!! Though some do cause you pain (TFIOS)!

Series or Standalone?
Standalone mostly unless it is a case where I can't bear to let characters go. However, I will only read a series if all the books are already out - I hate waiting!

Tell us the most recent book you've read.
The most recent book I have read before writing this post (it is a scheduled upload) is She is not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick - a contemporary/thriller following a visually impaired girl who ventures to New York with just her younger brother to discover where her dad has gone and why he is acting strange. I gave it 4 stars and would definitely recommend it!

Under the duvet - scariest book you've read?
As mentioned before, I am not one for scary books but 172 hours on the moon by Johan Harstad was pretty creepy!

Vanquish which YA series with a magic wand?
There are no series I absolutely hate although there are some I coldn't get through. That doesn't mean I would whisk one away as just because I didn't like it, doesn't mean everyone else won't and I wouldn't deny someone the pleasure of a book they love.

What do you love most about YA fiction?
How free it is - there is no boundaries in what you find in YA books and I love that the impossible becomes possible.

X marks the spot - where is your favourite reading spot?
On the beach! I usually read the quickest when I am on holiday reading up to 2 books a day usually - thank God for Kindles or my weight allowance would suffer!

Your house is on fire - which 3 books would you save?
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Ways to Live Forever by Sally Nicholls
Charlotte Webb by E B White

Zombies or Vampires?
Vampires definitely - Edward Cullen, Damon and Stefan Salvatore; the list is endless!

I am not going to tag anyone in particular for this tag as I wasn't tagged myself but if you decide to have a go at it, please leave a link to your post in the comments - I would love to see your answers! Happy Reading!
